After World War II ended and superheroes fell out of favor, Timely reorganized itself as Atlas Comics, publishing a wide variety of genres — crime comics, romance comics, war comics and horror comics — with only occasional forays into superheroics. Atlas became Marvel Comics in 1961 and published its first superhero comic in nearly two decades with The Fantastic Four .

Disney is the undisputed king of family entertainment. No other company in the world has so thoroughly dominated its field and built such a global brand as Disney has. It all started with one mouse, but today Disney spans every imaginable medium and has a presence in every facet of our lives.

Disney’s road to success began in 1923 when Walt Disney founded the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio with his older brother Roy. The two worked together on animated cartoons, but only found success with the arrival of a mouse named Mickey, which they created in 1928. Mickey soon became the most famous cartoon character in the world and was joined by several other memorable characters at Disney, including Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto.

In 1937 Disney released its first full-length animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” which was an unprecedented success for an animated film and led to several more such films that are now considered classics: “Pinocchio,” “Dumbo,” “Bambi,” and “Cinderella.” These were followed by a string of hits throughout the 1950s and 1960s such as “Peter Pan,” “The Jungle Book,” and “The Lion King.” While Walt had hoped to eventually make live action movies, his death in 1966 kept him from doing so.
